The regular season will end with City Championships taking place during the last week of June. If your team is eligible for provincials, they are usually held during the second weekend in July.

The South Edmonton Warriors Lacrosse Club is responsible for the area south of the North Saskatchewan River, to the City of Edmonton the limits on the West, South and East sides.” All players who reside within this area MUST register with the South Edmonton Warriors Lacrosse Club. Players whose principal residence lies outside of this area MUST register with their designated club. Current registration fees are listed by division on this website found here. Players who are new to the sport, who must buy a full set of equipment including a helmet and stick, should expect to spend a minimum of $200 on equipment. In addition to the minimum costs, there are a number of additional costs that most teams incur, including tournament fees, transportation, lodging and meals for out-of-town tournaments, extra floor times, team wear (hoodies, jackets, etc.), and team social events. Such costs are not included in the registration fees and must be paid for by the player(s).

There is no guarantee the schedule(s) will be the same this year however, historically Mini-Tyke teams typically have floor times Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings; Tyke and Novice teams typically have floor times Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday mornings; Players in Peewee and above should expect three or more floor times per week on various days. Scheduling will generally be random and inconsistent, based on the availability of city facilities. Players should expect a greater frequency of floor times in higher divisions and higher tiers.

Each club is allocated city arenas that serve as their home arenas for the season. For the 2017 season our home arenas include George P. Hughes (South Side) Arena, Michael Cameron Arena and Tipton Arena. The majority of Warriors home games and practices should be at any of these three arenas. Away games are played at the home arenas of other clubs.

All teams are required to travel to the home arenas of other clubs for about half of the games they play. Most teams choose to participate in at least one out-of-town tournament during the season. Teams that are successful in making it to the Provincial Championships must travel to the host location of the tournament.

Their age will determine whether or not they play on an all girls team or not. In the Mini-Tyke and Tyke divisions, the boys and girls play together and the goal is to learn the fundamentals of the game. In the Novice, Peewee, Bantam, and Midget levels we are hoping to have enough registrants to be able to have all-female teams. Of course, female players are welcome to continue to play in the open (boys) divisions.

Team formation is dependent on the division: Mini-Tyke, Tyke and Novice are “parity” divisions. Teams are formed with the intent of making them even in terms of competitive ability. Teams are formed by Division Directors and Coaches taking into account factors such as age, size, lacrosse experience, general sports experience, friend requests and parent interest in coaching. Peewee, Bantam and Midget are tiered divisions. There are three tiers, A, B and C, with A consisting of the most highly skilled players. Prior to the beginning of the season, evaluations are held to rank players in terms of ability. The A team (one per division) is selected by the appointed Coaching Staff based on many factors including evaluation rankings. The B and C teams are subsequently selected by the appointed Coaches for those teams, again based on many factors including evaluation rankings. The demand for all female teams is currently sparse within the GELC. Evaluations are not necessary and all female players wishing to play on an all-female team are placed on a team. Unfortunately, the Warriors do not generally have an all-female team in every division, although we are working to change that. Players throughout the GELC will be pooled and teams will be formed based on many factors, such as which geographic region has the majority of players registered and where coaching is available. Note: the Warriors have made a strong commitment to support the growth of all female lacrosse in Edmonton. To this end, special accommodation can sometimes be made for groups of all female players who wish to form a team. Mini-Tyke, and Tyke divisions do not have evaluations. There will be pre-season floor times these age groups. Evaluations for Novice, Peewee, Bantam and Midget will begin in early March. Specific Evaluation times are being booked and confirmed as we speak, and will be provided as soon as they are finalized. Novices will generally only participate in a single, short, skills-based evaluation session followed by a scrimmage. If your player is unable to participate in evaluations for any reason, please contact the appropriate Division Coordinator to discuss your player’s specific situation. Friend requests will be considered but are not guaranteed. In the “parity” divisions (Mini-Tyke, Tyke and Novice), the Division Coordinators do their best to accommodate friend requests. Peewee, Bantam and Midget are “tiered” divisions, which makes granting friend requests much more difficult. Where players are tiered at the same level, Division Coordinators do their best to accommodate friend requests but cannot guarantee them.

The South Edmonton Warriors Lacrosse Club is completely run by volunteers. There are many volunteer opportunities to volunteer for throughout the season, and the year. You will be asked to indicate your volunteer preference(s) when you register your player(s). The Warriors Volunteer Coordinator will contact you when opportunities arise within the scope you selected. The club will be monitoring Volunteer positions to ensure that those that volunteer will reap the rewards.

There are a number of programs that provide financial assistance to young box lacrosse players, such as the Jumpstart program. If your player is taking advantage of any of these programs, please contact the Registrar, registrar@warriorslacrosse.ca, to make special payment arrangements prior to completing online registration. You will not be able to complete online registration without paying in full unless you make prior arrangements.

The Warriors online registration system only accepts payment by Visa and MasterCard. If you do not have a Visa or MasterCard, you can purchase a prepaid Visa or MasterCard and use that to complete the registration process. Prepaid cards are available at many locations, including most grocery, convenience and department stores.
